Description:
The proposed research aims to develop natural or bio-based additives for crack remediation in cement-
based materials. While there is extensive research on various self-healing approaches, the field
application of the method still needs to be improved. The proposed project directly responds to this
challenge by establishing different additives for dry mix mortars. The designed dry mix mortar will have
an advanced rheological property that could be adapted to grouting, plastering, and even 3D printing. The
critical innovation and novel aspect of BioCrete is to develop a self-healing approach for cement-based
mixes through biomineralization and adapt the self-healing mortar to different field applications (i.e.,
plaster, grouts, and 3D printing).
